Gray Line of Seattle Takes Steps to Protect Environment
Learn how Gray Line of Seattle works day in and day out to protect and preserve the environment in the Pacific Northwest:
1. A wash water recycler that reuses 90 percent of water used in the washing buses.
2. A radiant heating system that recycles waste oil to heat the shop and washroom floors.
3. Water-oil separators that gather run-off water from the parking lot.
This is just the beginning. Gray Line of Seattle also:
1. Takes great care in ensuring that all our cleaning compounds are environmentally friendly.
2. Recycles anti-freeze; we also provide training to our mechanics and shop help on proper handling procedures of anti-freeze and we incorporate best management practices when disposing of anti-freeze.
3. Continues to implement good environmental stewardship within our administrative workspace by recycling all paper, glass, plastic, and aluminum.
4. Requested a review by Seattle City Light to help us reduce waste and save energy. Gray Line of Seattle has since replaced exit signs and shop lighting with efficient long-lasting bulbs, as well as including motion sensor lighting in our facility.
5. Has undergone the largest private engine repower in the Pacific Northwest and is replacing two-cycle engines with four-cycle engines, which are more fuel-efficient and reduce CO2 emissions.
6. Prevents any incidental spillage from reaching the storm drains by keeping all outside storage tanks within containment areas. Spill kits are stationed in refueling area, oil storage tanks and in the shop for rapid cleanup and containment of spill.
7. Uses ultra-low sulfur fuel in our coaches, resulting in the most environmentally friendly fleet in the state.
